How often should your horse get adjusted and how many adjustments will it take?
There are several factors to take into account when you are talking about the frequency of adjustments. The age of the horse, the length of time the problem has been there, if it is acute or chronic, if it was a trauma induced injury or it started as a performance problem that progressively got worse. Usually an animal responds quickly to an adjustment. Older horses require more adjustments than younger ones do. The longer the problem has existed, the longer it will take to heal. A trauma induced injury takes time to heal if it happened a long time ago, but if it was a recent injury, it will not take as long. A performance problem that has progressively gotten worse will also take some time, because it has been there for a while.
It usually takes me 2-5 adjustments, every 3-7 days, to fix a long existing ailment. After that, I highly recommend once a month adjustments for proper spinal alignment and optimal performance.
Every case is different, and should be based on the individual horse. The nervous system is the slowest healing tissue in the body and the ligaments are second. Do not base your horse's recovery on whether or not he or she has symptoms. I will check spinal alignment, range of motion, and reflexes to determine the horse's improvement.
